Disloyal second-in-command to Megatron in the Decepticon hierarchy, Starscream is surprisingly highly ranked considering how cowardly, traitorous, and whiny he is. Apparently it’s hard to find good help when your faction’s official credo essentially boils down to “being evil is awesome.” Despite constantly plotting to overthrow Megatron as the leader of the Decepticons, Starscream’s various plans usually come to nothing. This might be because his plans are usually terrible, despite the fact that he appears to spend about 80% of his free time monologueing about how he’s going to betray Megatron. Possibly not a great idea when you have a shrill, piercing voice that can easily be heard in the next county.
Nobody really likes Starscream. He isn’t cool-evil like a lot of Decepticons, instead usually falling into the pathetic-evil category. He’s still a popular collectible though – the show just wouldn’t be the same without annoying, shrill, whiny Starscream constantly coming up with terrible plots to overthrow competent leadership and replace it with his own idiocy.
Though Starscream would die in the animated movie, he later came back as a ghost, proving that he could annoy even from beyond the grave.
