Leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime is perhaps the most iconic of all Transformers. Virtually any Transformers fan will recognize Optimus as a faultless paragon of unwavering justice and a true example of enlightened leadership. Yes, a true symbol of all that is good and true, Optimus is considered by Transformers fans a symbol on par with Superman when it comes to selfless justice.
Unless you’re really into Beast Wars. He wasn’t in that one.
As with his evil counterpart, Megatron, Optimus Prime has been featured in most Transformers franchises. Unlike Megatron, whose non-robot form changes on a fairly regular basis, Prime’s alternate form has almost always been a truck of some sort.
Finding a vintage Optimus Prime in perfect condition can be difficult, but as with many of the most popular models, Hasbro has re-released Optimus Prime multiple times over the years, giving less hardcore collectors a reasonable chance to have Prime in their collection. Unlike most Transformers, Prime doesn’t come in a single piece, so losing parts for Prime can sometimes be a problem. Fortunately he’s composed of significantly fewer pieces than Megatron, and fewer compose his actual body, so it generally isn’t as severe of a problem as with the Decepticon leader.
