One of the original Autobots in the first run of the Transformers cartoon, Mirage was one of the sleeker of the starting Autobots, transforming into a Formula-1 racer. Speed wasn’t his only advantage, however. As his name implies, Mirage’s more unique abilities were illusion-related – he could both disguise himself and project his own image elsewhere, making fighting him a confusing prospect for the unfortunate Decepticons he faced.
Considering his special talent, it isn’t surprising that Mirage sort of faded into the background a lot in the Transformers cartoon. Still, he did make a few especially noteworthy contributions to the Autobot cause, even going so far as single-handedly sabotaging the Decepticons’ ship from within, forcing it to crash-land. For the most part, however, Mirage followed his personal conscience, which considered war of any kind wrong, only directly acting to aid the Autobot cause when victory and defeat were in the balance.
