The first featured “combiner” on the Transformers cartoon, Devastator is also arguably the most popular. Made up of six smaller Decepticons with a construction vehicles theme collectively called the Constructicons, Devastator doesn’t have an alternate form, instead just being a giant robot. His mental state is similarly simple – Devastator doesn’t plot, scheme or monologue. While the individual component Decepticons that make up Devastator are almost invariably called on to build something, Devastator is only called in when someone needs to get smashed. This can lead to some counter-productivity on Devastator’s part, since 50-foot tall robots can cause even more property damage than the standard 10-20 foot models.
The only positive thing that can really be said of his mental capabilities is that, when he focuses the entirety of his intellectual prowess, he can sometimes be counted on to lift a heavy object without smashing it. This is actually more than can be said of a lot of the other Decepticon combiners.
Originally the six Decepticons making up Devastator were sold separately, but it’s fairly common to find all of them coming together as a lot when purchasing used. The individual component robots can still often be found sold separately, however, so if you’re just missing one or two, searching for them individually might make more financial sense.
