Bombshell was leader of the “Insecticons” sub-group of Decepticons, capable of transforming into a giant boll weevil, presumably the undisputed ruler of the insect kingdom. This instantly made him scarier than the vast majority of Decepticons – sure, Megatron might turn into a gun, Starscream into a fighter jet, or Blitzwing into an actual tank, but those are all weapons of destruction, not harmless herbivorous insects whose diets consist primarily of cotton!
As a group, the Insecticons were sort of like the Decepticon version of Dinobots. Both had alternate forms that weren’t vehicles and both groups worked best with their own little cliques rather than with their main teams. However, unlike the Dinobots, who eventually fell into line behind Optimus due to his strength and leadership, the Insecticons only worked for Megatron when it suited their own interests.
Getting Bombshell isn’t terribly difficult. He can sometimes be found with his fellow Insecticons, Kickback and Shrapnel, if you want a full set of robots that turn into oddly-shaped giant insects instead of oddly-shaped cars. As with many other Transformers models, a vintage “mint in box” Bombshell is an exception to this rule, and can be surprisingly expensive.
