The main villain of the 1987 TMNT cartoon and most other versions of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Shredder was a great villain that kids loved to hate. His backstory linked Shredder to the turtles’ instructor, Master Splinter, and he was responsible not only for mutating Splinter into a giant rat but also for the creation of the turtles themselves.
Like most cartoon villains, Shredder varied between cold-hearted villainy and complete incompetence, making great sinister sounding plans but rarely following through with any level of success. Unfortunately, as the show got sillier in later seasons, he tended to slide more and more toward the incompetence line. Plans to create mutagenic monsters would gradually be replaced by wacky hijinks involving bad pizza and robot garbage trucks. Still, he was at least physically imposing through the series, usually proving capable of fighting against all four turtles at the same time on a more or less even level.
Shredder is a very popular character and the main villain of the show, so he’s relatively common, but the original toy came with a half dozen accessories, so getting a used copy with all of them might require a bit more effort. Most are relatively robust, though his katana can bend a bit and his cloth cape can sometimes be a bit frayed.
