Though most iterations of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles portray Raphael as a bit of an angry loner, the original cartoon broke from that mold, instead displaying him as a sarcastic wit but still definitely an integrated part of the team. In combat, Raph wields two sais.
Instead of attempting to overtake Leonardo’s general all around awesomeness as in the comics or later reincarnations of the turtles, this incarnation of Raphael was more content to just be the most clever of the four when it came to one-liners. Due to his sarcastic nature, Raph is perhaps the least serious of the turtles – even Mike is more inclined to take bad situations seriously once they sink in through his general obliviousness.
Like his brothers, collecting a used copy of Raph generally isn’t hard. Of the four main turtles, Raphael’s relatively stumpy sais are the second-least likely to see problems with wear, only behind Donatello’s problem-free staff.
