The most carefree and easy-going of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Michaelangelo (yes, that is his name in the original cartoon, even though the correct spelling would be Michelangelo) is sort of a surfer dude among the turtles, supported by his catchphrase, “Cowabunga!”, and his love of pizza and skateboarding. Appealing to children’s carefree nature, he was generally more popular than serious Leonardo, nerdy Donatello, and even sarcastic Raphael.
Writers generally used Michaelangelo to provide a laid-back attitude that kids could relate to. Along with Raphael, the original show used him as one of the more “comic relief” oriented turtles, with his humor tending to revolve around his easy-going foolishness and providing a good foil for Raph’s more sarcastic humor. Despite the simplicity of his character, Michaelangelo is master of what most people would instinctively consider the trickiest weapon used by the four turtles, wielding twin nunchucks.
Like all the primary turtles, Michaelangelo isn’t hard to get a copy of used. Try to get a look at his nunchucks, however, as they were sometimes prone to wear in the middle connecting bit.
