When you think of Oscar the Grouch from Sesame Street, you remember a grumpy green Muppet who lives in a trash can. In the first appearance of Oscar he was actually yellow before going orange for a month. The producers of Sesame Street got Oscar’s name from a restaurant they frequented with a grouchy waiter. It is said that many of the comments Oscar made on the show were from this waiter who ruined everyone’s day.
Oscar’s main goal in life is to be as grumpy and miserable as possible and to pass that on to everyone else. He does have soft spots for his pets Slimey (a worm) and Fluffy, his stuffed elephant.
Oscar even has a girlfriend, Grundgetta.
If you knock on his trash can which is located between Big Bird’s nest and 123 Sesame Street, he will inevitably answer with a grouchy response or a growl telling you to “Go away!”
