For kids of the 1950s, a week wasn’t complete without watching the King of the Cowboys, Roy Rogers, in action. He was someone to look up to and want to emulate. That’s one of the reasons why kids hankered to own anything they could that said they were like their hero.
One of the items that merchandisers made available was a Roy Rogers badge. This was a tin star with Roy’s name on it that was labeled ‘Deputy’. The copper-tone item had an image of Trigger’s head at the top and two rifles at the bottom.
Wearing a Roy Rogers badge as a child was simply cool. Owning one as an adult is a trip back into a time when the old west ruled.
