Lost In Space was a tremendously popular science fiction television show that first aired in 1965. Although it only lasted three seasons, there are 83 episodes. Its first season was filmed in black and white.
The plot of the show is set in the late 1990s, which at the time was the "far-off" future. The Robinson family is embarking on the first attempt of man to colonize deep space. Space probes have revealed a planet that possesses ideal living conditions for humans in the star system of Alpha Centauri. It will take the Robinsons five years to arrive. The five-member family is accompanied by the pilot of the ship (Jupiter 2), a robot, and Dr. Zachary Smith.

Because of the fierce international competition to be the first to accomplish deep space colonization, there are cut-throat attempts to thwart the success of the Jupiter 2. Dr. Zachary Smith is actually a secret agent who accidentally finds himself on-board the ship after his attempts to sabotage its success. It is his unaccounted for weight that sends the ship off its course and causes the crew to be Lost In Space.
