Guide To Collectible Toys

1989 Hess Toy Truck: Hess Fire Truck Bank with Dual Sound Siren

Many toy vehicle collectors focus on specific types of toys to collect, such as the Hess Toy Trucks. The 1989 Hess Toy Fire Truck Bank with Dual Sound Siren is one of such collectibles. Hess toys have been popular since their inception, and continue to grow in popularity today  – due to the nostalgia they carry.

Something that makes Hess Toy Trucks unique is that they were only sold in Hess gas stations during the holiday season. The first year that they were sold was 1964, with the first toy being a tanker trailer. Hess Toy Trucks became an iconic holiday gift that children looked forward to every Christmas season. The company still produces a toy each year, thus continuing the tradition it began so many years ago.

Because the Hess Toy Trucks are released during the holiday season, the boxes they came in reflects festive, holiday fare. The 1989 Hess Toy Fire Truck Bank with Dual Sound Siren’s original box is made out of cardboard and features a Hess gasoline station decorated for the holidays. On the right side of the box is a gleaming Hess Fire truck with lights on. The box states that it has real head and taillights, emergency flashers, a bank, and that it requires two energizer batteries.

The Hess Fire Truck Bank with Dual Sound Siren is a little over 12″ long, and is made with many detailed features for realism. Looking at the Hess Fire Truck Bank, one can see the realistic details such as the shiny chrome looking panels and molded fire truck compartments. The green and white coloring marks the difference from earlier models. Something that makes the Hess Fire Truck interesting is the dual sound siren along with the working head and tail lights. The bank option was hidden on the back door of the fire truck. The red knob twists to open the door and reveal a bank compartment. The red fire ladder also is adjustable and extendable.

Choosing between the various toys Hess offered can be difficult, but the fire truck toy is one of the neater items because of its unique features. The working Dual Sound Siren and lights and the fact it is not a typical truck make this an interesting model to collect. Overall, the 1989 Hess Toy Fire Truck Bank with Dual Sound Siren offers some interesting options and is a delight for toy collectors today.
