The Hess toy truck has a colorful history. These promotional trucks were first issued in 1964. They feature the company’s colors and most of them have parts that actually work, including functional lights. They were only available at Hess gas stations and produced in limited quantities. Though meant for kids, adults soon saw the value in them, and now these trucks are highly sought after collector’s items. Their value continues to rise.

The 1969 Hess Tanker Truck is a reissue of the 1967 Tanker Truck and is the rarest of all the models. The sides of the truck say “Amerada Hess” as this was the year Hess Oil and Amerada Petroleum merged. The truck wasn’t available at the gas stations and was used solely as a promotional truck for marketers and employees. Only 10,000 of these trucks were produced.
