The makers of Masters of the Universe created Orko after the series had already premiered. The reason for the Masters of the Universe Orko creation was to add a lighter side to the series. He is, essentially, the funny man of the Universe. When the toy collection for the series was generated, Orko was not originally included. He was designed at a later date, and then added to the collection.

Masters of the Universe Orko is from another world. He is a Trollan. This race of beings possesses magical abilities. The funny side of this character is that he always seems to have great trouble in controlling his magic. Every time he attempts to use it, it tends to backfire on him. This is a cute little character, and a definite addition to any collection.
