Once upon a time, many years ago (1976) there was a young man by the name of Xavier Roberts, who founded Babyland General Hospital in Cleveland, Georgia. At this hospital, soft handmade dolls could be adopted – already given their names, and of course, they had birth certificates and their adoption papers.
Xavier Roberts entered into a contract with a toy company which was able to produce these Cabbage Patch dolls a lot faster than he could. At one time, Cabbage Patch Kids were the hottest toys available… making them very sought after, to the point of stores running out of them during the holiday season!
