Mattel has been making Barbie dolls for over fifty years. The basis for Barbie was the German “Bild Lilli” (adult) doll, which Mattel bought the rights for. Barbie dolls are sold worldwide to millions of girls. That’s a lot of Barbie Dolls!
The term “Barbie Doll” is used to describe a lot more than just… a Barbie doll. Barbie is a gal with loads of family and friends. Included in that rather long list are Barbie’s sister Skipper, Barbies boyfriend (or is that ex-boyfriend?!) Ken, her friend Midge, Ken’s friend and Midge’s boyfriend/husband Allan, Barbie’s twin siblings Todd and Stacie (or should that be Tutti?!), even Rockers, Sensations, and Fashion Fever friends!
